Why Is Punch & Judy Associated With The Sea-Side?

Punch and Judy go where the crowds are and what could be more crowded than a busy beach in the summer-time? There are so few sea-side shows today because people expect entertainment for free. The  authorities are cash-strapped, must prioritise their expenditure on matters of public need and must therefore rely on the public’s generosity when called upon. The show person still needs to eat and denying them reward for a hard day’s work will mean there will be nothing ‘specail’ to visit and see when ‘you’ see the sea.
