The Theatres

Punch & Judy Theatres to Suit your Venue

The Punch & Judy theatre is called a booth - not for us a gazebo, tent, box-kite, etc.

Smaller theatres, typically 6ft tall, are more suitable for indoors, or windy weather. The audience is typically much closer to the action.

By contrast, larger, taller theatres are more typically used outdoors and for larger audiences where visibility from further afield is important. Your investment, in our appearance, is then rewarded by the iconic sight of a traditional authentic red-and-white striped booth.

Over the years, we've built a collection of three theatres (see below) A 2m one, a 3m one and a 4m one - one to suit every occasion.

It's not just visibility that matters, but also sound clarity - even at the back of the audience. For this reason, we provide a good quality sound system; a joke that goes unheard, is no joke at all !

The Staging of The Show.
Four vertical poles, encased in the red and white roundings, with weights, stakes and flags – the Booth or the Theatre, or the Fit-Up, call it what you will (but please not a Gazebo) the question is, does it matter?
Traditionally, performers worked with their ‘hands-overhead’. The tendency now is to work ‘hands-in-front-of-face’. This has the potential to bring the action much closer to the audience but it also means the theatre can get lost in the crowd. You wouldn’t want that, would you?
While the theatre has to be portable, the choice of theatre will always depend on the nature of the event and the degree of exposure to the rain and wind. The wind is our primary enemy, even in these politically correct ‘woke’ days!
Provided the theatre is as attractive as ‘we’ can make it, does it matter what size the theatre is? Well, yes! You want the show to be as memorable as possible. You want the show to grace your event and to become one of its highlights, don’t you?
So, point the theatre towards the sun and God-willing, it will not then shine into your visitors faces. The spot-light will then be on Mr. Punch for sure!
Give the theatre as much room as you can. The base may only be 2m square but the area required must accommodate 150 (?) people. Too close to your other attractions and/or stalls and no-one will be happy.
Give a little thought to the staging of the show and you’ll be sure to get your monies worth!
