Talks on The History of Punch & Judy - Its Origins And Evolution.

In 1827 a book: 'The Tragical Comedy and Comical Tragedy of Punch and Judy' was published. The series of illustrations presented an aging Italian's then show, the production that had exhibited on London's Streets for over forty years.

The show, as then captured, became the basis of all shows that were to follow. While acknowledging the benefits tradition provides a society, the illustrations have become something of a mill stone around our necks. Modern Punch and Judy shows, like the one Paul Jackson presents, take aspects from tradition and ensures it makes for suitable entertainment for today's audiences.

When Paul retells the history of Punch and Judy, he uses copies of the principal puppets that Piccini used, in order to inform. educate and entertain. School children, OAP's and those aged somewhere in between, are enthralled. Baby goats are excluded!
